Within the US:
Under the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of the United States Code Annotated Title 15 Commerce and Trade Chapter 50 Consumer Product Warranties Section 2302(c), and the general principles of the Federal Trade Commission Act, a vehicle manufacturer or dealer may not make its vehicle warranty conditional on the use of any after market system unless the manufacturer provides the system free of charge or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has given the warrantor a waiver for this section of the law or specifically published that only the vehicle manufacturer's product may be used.
In laymen terms, this means that NO vehicle manufacturer or dealer may make conditional its warranty because you installed an aftermarket product on the vehicle. The Federal Trade Commission (202-326-3128) administers the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act and monitors compliance with warranty law. The Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act is viable all States regardless, however some states may have additional consumer protect laws, please consult your local consumer protect offices for more details.
Within Canada:
Any manufacturer or vehicle dealer stating that any aftermarket product installed on your vehicle will void your vehicle's warranty is a violation of the Consumer protection laws established by the federal, provincial and territorial governments. The manufacturer or vehicle dealer would have to prove in a court of law that the after market product had a direct impact on whatever part or parts that you wanted changed under warranty before they could void the warranty of the vehicle. A properly installed AstroStart® system can't have any negative effects on your vehicle.
All the Provinces have a Sale of Goods Act, which are the laws governing contracts for the sale of goods and implied warranties. Certain related warranty provisions may also be contained in other statutes. Such legislation may establish the basis for a private right of action against a merchant. Certain Provinces have also enacted much more extensive consumer warranty legislation. See New Brunswick's Consumer Product Warranty and Liability Act (S.N.B. 1978, c. C-18.1) and Part III of the Saskatchewan's Consumer Protection Act (S.S. 1996, c. C-30.1)
